This last month while everything has been going on, I have had a lot of time to think about friends and what they mean to me. Why do we need friends? Why do I need friends?
I think back through all my life and consider the friends I have had. Am I still friends with most of them? Not really. I am still best friends with one of my best friends from High School, but for most everyone else, those "friends" you will have for life, be BFF'S forever with, they just aren't your real friends anymore. Now facebook has made "friendships" a lot more of a loose term. I hate that they call it friendships. I am not friends with the random girl from my biology class sophomore year that sat across the table from me and we exchanged words maybe a few times, and she randomly found me on facebook through other mutual high school friends. You know exactly the kind I'm talking about. The kid you met at some friends' birthday party 3 years ago, you don't remember his name, but somehow you become friends on facebook, and in fact you don't even remember how or when you became friends on there in the first place. You never talk to each other, but you each know a lot more about each other than you ever wanted through facebook posts and pictures, you really should delete them, but it's almost rude? Yup, we all got em!
I think they should really add an "acquaintance" button to facebook instead lol. So what is a friend, if it's not you sisters', friends', cousin who went to the same church as you? I'm still trying to figuring it out.
Being married and having friends is SUCH a different world than friends as a single person or friends in high school. Or at least it should be. There are those couple friends you hang out with with your spouse, your individual friends which you introduced to your spouse, and now you are all friends, and your individual friends that you hang out with or go out to the lunch with while your husband is at work. Friendships while married takes on a totally different dynamic, but what those friends do for you mentally, and emotionally should all be the same. I think a friend, a true friend, is someone who is there for you unconditionally. Someone who has you at the heart of their concerns, and when they ask you, "what can I do for you?" or "how are you doing?" they mean it. They genuinely mean it and want a genuine answer. A real friend is someone who will drop anything to be by your side if you need it, someone who selflessly serves the other person because they care, not because they want to show off, or not because its just an obligation to be nice.
My best friend Ashley is one of the greatest people I have ever met. She is GORGEOUS. She is fun, she is kind, she is driven, and most of all, she is genuine. When Ashley asks me how I'm doing, I know she is asking because she wants to know, and she wants me to answer with a real answer, not just the standard "GOOD!" (because, you gotta admit it, everyone says they are good sometimes just as a reflex response, even when life might be a hell hole.) Ashley and I have always had a great friendship. The years we have been best of friends, we had changed a lot, but the one thing that has never changed is that real love and concern. That's what we need in life. Too often these days, friendships get lazy. Are we not lazy and lax about our friendships on facebook? Things like that have given us the opportunity to finagle our way out traditional friendship, in which you invest time in THE PERSON, not into "oh well I read their status, saw their pictures, read their blog. Looks like all is well. I did my job as a friend."
We did not. Did we call them? Did we actually check into past the surface of "good"? If we just investigate a little further past the good, we might find out that "good" is more like "crappy" and they have just been waiting for us to pry a little further, so they can open up to someone who cares, and relieve some of that stress. We need to step it up. I need to step it up. I have realized that I am guilty of this too, I have not been doing my job as a friend. I have not been there as much as I should be for friends, friends I truly love. I have been busy, lazy, and impatient. If I want good friends, I need to be a good friend in return. So do you. You can't expect everyone to just love you. If you don't try, if you don't put forth the effort, all of your "kindness" and nice personality is being wasted. You need to put in action, I need to put in action.
So ask yourself, What kind of friends do you want? What kind of friend do you want to be? What kind of friend are you NOW?
Everyones true colors come out eventually. You find out who your friends are, and so will they. :)

The Sledding Trip (the best & the worst)
Last night we had the MOST fun, scary, long, and worry-sick night of our lives. After Scott and I got home from visiting his family in Hunstville, our friends Bj and Aubrey had come down from Salt Lake for a mission farewell the next day. It was almost 10 pm and they invited us to go sledding with them! Us being the spontaneous people we are, jumped on the idea. We were going to go up into Price canyon in Springville where Bj' parents live. He lives in the mountains so he had the coolest little sledding trip planned for us which involved a little path up into the mountain that you could only get to by four-wheeler.
We got ready to go, and I layered up with and undershirt, thermal shirt, sweatshirt, and snowborading coat. Leggings, and 2 pairs of sweat pants, 2 pairs of socks, boots, and of course gloves. Scott layered up with 1 shirt, and one sweatshirt, and a regular coat. JEANS, and a pair of Nikes...no gloves..until Bj gave him some.(mind you he served his mission in Alaska, thus making him completly "invincible" against cold.) He teased me a little wondering if it was necessary to wear that much clothes. I laughed out loud that he wasn't wearing that much clothes. I told him he would regret it, and I would have the last laugh.
The path was SO fun to get to. 6 of us pilled into the truck, including new friends James and Nicole. We got to the shed and picked up the MASSIVE 4-wheeler we were using to get up the mountain. 3 people in the front, 3 people hanging off the back. I tried sitting on the back once...but Scott was bouncing from the hills and sat completly down on my bent knee, almost making me cry. I sat up front the rest of the time.

It took a good 10 to 15 mintues to get all the way up to the top of this hill on the ATV. At first we made short trips, not going the whole way up the path, but after sledding down those it was a better idea to go as high as we could go. The sledding was SO fun. We would all go at the same time and BJ would follow us in the ATV so the headlights gave a little light to the path, and the at the bottomw drive us all back up to the top. The path was an ATV path that was pretty narrow and full of bumps. It wasnt very steep, but those bumps were misleading. Imagine moguls while snowboarding, except you are flying down the hill on your butt with no way to stop. It was a blast! We would lose our sleds from us rolling off, or we would hit a bump and fly off with the sled still going. Scott was the scariest person down the hill, he would be totally silent and be roaring down the hill behind you, while you are there trying to get back on your sled. You didnt even know he was pummeling like a train towards you until you had 3 seconds to dodge out of his way.

After about 2 hours of sledding we were pretty beat. We went all the way back to the top and sled down one more time. I was the second one down after Aubrey, and we waiting for everyone else. About 10 minutes later, Nicole met us at the bottom. She told us that the ATV was stuck at the top in deep powder and they were trying to get it out. We didnt think it would take too long, so we waited...for an hour. They never came down so we decided to head back to the house. We walked for an hour back to Bj's house without the boys. Once we got inside we decided to put on a movie and wait, thinking they would be home very soon. We fell asleep and I woke up suddenly at 2am. They were still not home. I got the most horrible feeling that something was wrong. There was no way that they would had been stuck up there for 2 and half hours, and even if they were still stuck they would have been smart enough to just leave it. I knew something had happened. I woke the other girls up because I was freaking out. I began thinking the worst case senario, that something had happened to Scott, because I was reminded that he was ill prepared to be in such conditions for such a long time. I was so worried I almost made myself throw up. I was so upset thinking about what happened, and I was horrified about what would happen if something happened to Scott and what I would do without him. The girls talked about what we should do and we came to the conclusion that we needed to pray. I said a pray for our boys, that they were safe, that whatever was happening, that we would be guided into what the right thing to do would be. I closed up the prayer, and 2 minutes later we heard someone coming in. It was BJ and he was alone.
BJ looked so angry and upset. He reassured me that Scott was fine, and him and James were walking, but that after they finally got the ATV out of the snow, the entire wheel fell off, still at the top. Scott came in a few minutes later, and I greeted him crying, on the verge of puking all over him, and he was soaked to the core. He said they had to go back into the mountain to fix the wheel because currently it was propped up under a tree branch like a car jack. Scott was given warm clothes and they headed off to fix the tire.
This time I felt much more releaved because we had prayed and I knew that the Lord was going to watch over the boys as they were gone. I also was more settled because I had a cream soda and saltines, for my rumbley tummy. The boys came home finally 3 hours later at 5 am. They were all so tired. They hadn't slept all night.
We were happy to have them back though. Scott and I finally got home from Springville at 6 am. Scott has never pulled an all nighter. I sweetly put it that it will feel like he got hit on the face with a bag of bricks. We slept til 2:30 pm. I was so grateful that nothing happened to Scott, I love him so much and am so thankful to have him. Im sad he had to suffer in the cold for so long with his clothes soaked, even though he maintains that he was NOT cold. I guess I really did have the last laugh.

(he fell asleep sitting up lol)
One thing is for sure though...it's time to get Scott some snowboarding clothes.

Park City, Temple Lights, & friends
Well we have had another busy couple weeks, as I suspected this month would be. Scott and I are preparing to go to Colorado to see my family for Christmas. We are leaving on the 22nd and coming back the 27th. Scott is finishing up the semester and preparing for finals, and I am indulging in every minute of "The 12 days of Teacher Appreciation" at my school and getting the awesome gifts from the PTO and student counsel.
Besides that not much happens during the week except worj and school. Oh! My blog stalker Katie wrote me another crazy pants message this last week on facebook, pretending to be her sister. oh goodness. Everytime she writes me she looks more pathetic I feel more bad for her and the life she must be living. That poor thing.
On to a funner topic, my school had our Teacher Christmas party which was WAY fun. We had dinner from Zupas (Martinellis included) and exchanged secret santa gifts. VerDaun the front office lady who is in her 70's or 80's was seriously the life of the party. We she was saying the funniest stuff (most of which I cant repeat, lets just say she is very sassy for an elderly woman) and she actually made herself cry from laughing. Other people were chatting, but Me, Ashley, and Amanda were rolling arounf in laughter. I havent laughed THAT hard in a long time. I love my co-workers.

Then on Friday we went up to Park City with a bunch of our friends, and stayed in our friends really nice house overlooking the ski resorts. This has been our 4th stay at this house this year, and we love it everytime. We played the wii, played the Adams Family game again, and had an awesome dinner. The next morning we had breakfast, and headed down to the outlet malls to look around.

By this time I was not feeling very good, and we had to make a pit stop, but Scotty got me a Peppermint shake, since im OBSESSED with perppermint. He is so sweet. Scott and I then headed to Salt Lake where we were meeting up with our friend Bj and Aubrey, and Craig and Stephanie. Before we got together Scott and I went and saw the movie Joseph Smith, Prophet of the Restoration. I had never seen it, and let me tell you, if you have not seen it, you must. It was the most powerful movie I have ever seen. I cried, Scott cried. It is just so touching and after watching it you just have such a greater love for Joseph Smith and all he did for the church. He truly was a man called of God. After we were done, we met up with our friends and walked around temple square, hit up Carls Jr, and went Ice Skating!

Here are some pictures of ice skating:)(the last picture is my favorite)

After we went and got some Hot Chocolate from the Salt Lake Roasting Co. yummmmmy. We had an awesome weekend and CAN'T wait for the next few. We are so blessed to have wonderful friends, especially during this holiday season.

Little Camping Trip
2 Weekends ago we went on a fun camping trip with some of our friends up by Squaw Peak. We had so much fun, we went on a hike, followed by foil dinners. Then we played Catch Phrase around the camp fire while making smores! After we all piled in a 10 man ten! It was a really fun trip and I'm happy we were able to go camping before the summer was over.

Me and my baby!

when Ashley came
So for the last few weeks my best friend from San Diego Ashley had been telling me that she was sending me something. She said it was a surprise so I checked the mail everyday. On Thursday of last week the doorbell rang and I went to answer it, even though I wasn't expecting anyone. When I opened the door Ashley was standing there with her boyfriend. I was shocked I couldn't believe it!
It was the most amazing surprise ever!
I usually love to ruin my own surprises, but this time I had no idea. It was great. Even though we had to leave the next day it was fun to be able to spend some quality time with Ash since we live so far away from eachother. I HAD SO MUCH FUN!
